Conformity Assessment for Marine Equipment under EU Flag

Phoenix Testlab is officially designated as a Notified Body under the European Marine Equipment Directive (MED) by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) for navigation and radio equipment.

The MED regulates the approval of marine equipment installed on ships flying European Union flags. If your product is listed under the Directive, it must undergo a defined conformity assessment procedure involving a Notified Body.

Once approved, your equipment may be installed on any EU-flagged vessel without additional national authorization. The manufacturer is authorized to affix the Wheel Mark, demonstrating conformity with MED requirements.

Under the EU–US Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), Phoenix Testlab may also issue approval numbers on behalf of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for navigation equipment — eliminating the need for a separate USCG approval process.

For radio equipment, additional approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is required. As a Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB),  Phoenix Testlab can issue FCC approvals directly.
