Radio certification is required if a product uses radio technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular networks, or other wireless transmission methods. Each country has its own regulatory requirements that must be met before a product can be placed on the market. In Europe, the RED Directive applies; in the USA, the FCC regulations; and in Japan, the MIC certification.

The certification process includes technical tests to ensure compliance with limits for transmission power, frequency usage, and electromagnetic compatibility. A Technical Service of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is an accredited testing body that conducts technical assessments of vehicle components.
